Lance (we're buddies now of course -- I e-mailed to see if he'd donate to my Pelotonia fund and he sends me e-mails -- really he does. OK -- they are form e-mails but still!) is in Ireland right now, Dublin to be exact, at the LiveSTRONG Global Cancer Summit.
As a part of his return to cycling he is leveraging his incredible fame and popularity to get cancer initiatives, funding, and etc in countries that have had little support in the past. I'm thinking in exchange for riding in the Tour of Ireland they agreed to host the Summit.
The purpose of the declaration is "to urge some of the most powerful people in the world to commit the time, energy, and resources needed to make a world without cancer a reality". They've collected 100,000 signatures already and want to add 10,000 more by Wednesday when the Summit ends.
So -- WILL YOU HELP? It's easy -- every name counts. You can add to my declaration or do your own:
"Cancer affects all of us. By 2010, cancer is projected to become the leading cause of death worldwide, yet the fight against cancer lacks urgency and focus".
With your help, and the help of your neighbors and friends, we can give the fight the urgency and focus it deserves. Every voice counts -- please add yours today.
