I'm not a famous cyclist, celebrity, university president, NHL player, college football coach, mayor, or cancer survivor, I'm just an everyday, ordinary schmo who loves to ride a bike and is passionate about finding a cure for cancer.
The local community has really gotten excited about Pelotonia. Today's Columbus Dispatch had an article with stories from some of the riders:
http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2009/08/28/0_PELOTONIA_PEOPLE.ART_ART_08-28-09_A1_RIET6J6.html?sid=101
and an article about all of the celebrities that will be joining Lance Armstrong at Pelotonia. I am not sure why they didn't call or interview me but I imagine they had a deadline and couldn't get ahold of me.
I'll be in wonderful company this weekend. I may not be able to ride as fast as Lance, be as strong as Rick Nash or R.J. Umberger from the Bluejackets but I know I can ride better than Mayor Coleman (who rode this May with us in the Ride for Silence -- a funeral procession of bicyclists dedicated to all those who had been killed or hit by cars). I'll probably look better in spandex then Dr. Gee, maybe even Coach Tressel (although to be fair he looks better in a sweater vest than I do) but I'm not nearly as rich money wise at Leslie Wexner. But I give him credit -- his entire family is riding -- his wife and his 15, 14, 12 and 11 year old kids.
But no matter how different we are we're all united, for 2 days, for the same cause. And everyone is as passionate as I am -- some maybe more so because I am used to riding but I know alot of these folks rarely have seen a bicycle before they started training for this.
The rain in Columbus has stopped -- let the opening ceremony parties begin!
