Getting Ready

So how do you spend the week leading up to a big ride? Well optimally a bit a training with some core work, stretching, and generally taking good care of your body.

But who wants optimal? I have to have a built in excuse if I don't do well right?! So I rode 53 miles on Sunday with some friends as a part of a birthday ride, did some core work Monday, worked 15 hours Tuesday and Wednesday (American Idol and Journey), worked 9 hours today and haven't ridden or worked out since Monday! Well at least I should be bike rested!

Exciting Pelotonia activities around the Schott. They used the arena floor to stuff the "goodie bags" all the riders will get. So I got to chat with the Executive Director Tom Lennox and get a sneak peak!

There are 2200 actual riders, about 100+ virtual riders (who raised the donation minimums but are chosing not to ride), and about 1200 volunteers. Several hundred of those volunteers, from Nationwide Insurance, descended onto the floor to stuff green (both literal and figural!) bags with water bottles, T-shirts, gift certificates, a variety of samples (lip balm, lotions, etc.) and a really cool looking sweatshirt blanket with all the Pelotonia logos! May be the best gift bag I've gotten on a ride.

There is alot of work behind the scenes to put on an event, alot of work to put on a bicycle ride -- especially for 2200 people! Fortunately this time -- I just have to show up and ride!

Looking at chance of showers for the opening cermonies tomorrow night but Mid 70's, upper 60's for Saturday and Sunday -- woohoo!
