Jens Voigt

Jens Voigt is one of the most popular riders in the pro peleton. The media love him, fans love him, teams love him. Constantly on the attack, working hard, suffering for his team leader, he's the consumate pro. He's also approachable, funny, honest and a family man. He is on my (albeit rather long!) list of favorite riders.

He suffered an awful crash in this years Tour. The super slow motion show pieces of his helmet and eyeglasses skidding away as he slide face first at over 45 mph as he crashed on a descent. Crashing is part of cycling -- an unfortunate part but part. He was unconcious after and all feared for his safety. I can't imagine if his wife and children were watching.

But as you'll see -- he's already talking about riding again. He is quite subdued in this video for a typical Jens interview -- but that's understandable.

There is a reason professional athletes make their living at sport -- and an equally good reason why none of us do! They are truly amazing and certainly have a special edge.

The above video shows the crash.

And - why we love Jens!

And as they said on Hillstreet Blues -- be careful out there.
