It was hot. As is evidence by the salt stains on my jersey and shorts. It hit 106.5
I suffered. A combination of fast pace, general lack of conditioning, and heat
116 miles. At 108 we started a serious of climbs each of which hit 26%. And I should know - I was going slow enough to watch my Garmin. I'm proof you can go 1.1 mph and not fall only(OK it was a slit second but still!)
I drank an awful lot of water. I sweated an awful lot. I was soaking we at mile 25 as if it had rained
Heidi got a flat. I appreciated the moment to stop. If you are Heidi you can just show up with a gym bag and shorts. If you are me, however you show up with every tool at your disposal. Compression socks, and ice towel, nylons to put ice in and run down the back of my jersey to slowly melt, electrolytes, bio-freeze, food to eat when I get off the bike. Anything to get through the week!
116 miles down. 580 to go!

Go Vicki Go!! You can and WILL make this ride! Think of all the stories you will have :-)Be careful - I love you!
