It hit me about 1/2 way home.
It was a remotely, familiar, faint recollection.
It was the long way home.
I had driven out the the "country" to ride with a group. From downtown it was state route interstate to the outerbelt. Took about 45 minutes or so with traffic.
I used to hate it when Dad took the side roads, the off routes. I was always in such a hurry, even as a child. I couldn't understand why we didn't just take the interstate.
This was going to take forever.
Dad always argued for the most direct (read SLOWER) route, which not all to infrequently got us lost (apparently we were never quite "lost", we'd just missed a turn).

Were JUST talking about trips with Dad - getting lost, asking directions. Jim and Dad had some great trips together - taking the LONG way shortcut.
